Last year Diane Miller of the Brattleboro Area Farmers’ Market interviewed True North Granola to develop a profile of our business to share on the Farmers’ Market Facebook page. The below was extracted from that profile and offers a bit of history about True North Granola:
In 1975, Ingrid Chrisco wasn’t satisfied with the granola products available to her, so she
developed her own recipe for her family. Accolades from friends and family prompted Ingrid
and her husband Franklin to vend their Basic Granola mix called Go Nuts at the Brattleboro Area
Farmers’ Market. Its instant popularity led them to become full-season vendors and introduce 8
additional flavors of granola, 3 of which are gluten-free. In process is the newest addition,
Cherry Vanilla with Pecans, also gluten-free and vegan. Ingrid continued her career in education
as Middle School Principal while beginning larger-scale production, and nine years ago True
North Granola was born.
Over those nine years, True North Granola has now developed 14 unique products within four
product lines: granola, muesli, snack mix, granola chocolate chip cookie mix. Its newest products
include three varieties of Nutty No Grainer which are grain free, gluten free and suitable for
vegan diets, too. True North Granola also offer a Muesli mix named Oats So Good. Wherever
possible, the ingredients for their products are sourced locally, and the Chriscos place a particular
importance on using non-GMO products and no preservatives.
Ingrid and Franklin offer samples of their products at their booth, giving customers the
opportunity to buy something they really like. You can find them at the Brattleboro Farmers’
Market every Saturday from the beginning of May through the end of October. Additionally,
True North Granola can be found every Thursday in June, July, August and September at the
Westborough, MA Farmers’ Market, and many Sundays at the SoWa Farmers Market in the
South End of Boston.
True North Granola products are available at the Brattleboro Farmers’ Market, the Westborough,
MA Farmers’ Market on Thursdays, and at SoWa, the South End Farmers’ Market in Boston on
Sundays. They can also be found at the Brattleboro Co-op and more than 50 retail outlets,
including Whole Foods stores in Hadley and Boston. In July, 2015 when it opens, one can also
find True North Granola products at the 28,000 square foot Boston Public Market near
Haymarket Square.
For the past five years, True North has donated granola to local schools in Brattleboro, as Ingrid
and Franklin are passionate about promoting healthy food in schools. For more information
